HMH was able to buy all the New Old stock parts of the A.K. Best and McKenzie vises. These parts had been in storage for ~20 years since 3M sold off Scientific Angler who had made the vise under the McKenzie name.
The vise was originally designed by A.K. Best in around 1996 when he was on Annapolis, MD.
The Best / McKenzie vise is made out of stainless steel with the exception of the jaw which is carbon steel for hardness. The base is made out of aluminum with steel cylinders added for weight.
Because the jaws are slotted as A.K. designed, the vise is best for dry trout flies in sub #20 to #6 or #8. It really was not designed for and does not hold large (bigger then #6) well. In the future we may make a Mc Kenzie style jaw, with larger grooves for bigger hooks.
Currently we have a limited number of base model vises available.
